Reference Section

The Reference Section is tasked with giving assistance to a customer in his quest for knowledge.

The purpose of the reference service is to extend all the help they can give in finding the answer to a customer’s query.

Reference Queries

There are two major types of reference queries.

  1. The ready-reference/directional questions
    The questions maybe just a request for direction of the location of a certain materials and which involve a very limited search of the collection or even not at all.
  2. The search and research questions
    These questions need an exhaustive search of the resources to be able to present satisfactory answers.
Information Resources

The use of the different types of information resources shall be subject to the following conditions:

  1. General Reference Books
    General reference books and materials (encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, etc shall be for room-use only.
  2. Maps, globes
    Information resources may be issued for classroom use upon request of faculty members, but these shall be returned within the day.
Circulation Section

The Circulation section takes charge of borrowing and returning of library materials on the open shelves.

The purpose of the circulation section is to make available the library materials to the customers.

This section is responsible for the arrangement of the books on the shelves according to the Dewey decimal classification systems utilized by the library, their return to the shelves after use and facilitating smooth running system of borrowing and returning of books.
Graduate School / Education Section

This section caters to UCU bonafide graduate and undergraduate students; thesis writers, faculty members and administrative staff. Graduate students from other universities or colleges with the required referral letter and valid ID are also allowed to use this section

The collection includes dissertations, masteral theses, undergraduate theses, research work, narrative reports, feasibility studies and books for graduate students.
Filipiniana Section

This section is the repository of Philippine printing both rare and current. The Filipiniana collection is considered one of the richest of its kind in the Philippines.

Books in this collection are on Philippine history and culture, political science, literature, languages and subjects other than those of technology. Among these are publications written by Filipino authors published both in the Philippines and abroad and books by foreign authors but treating solely on the Philippines.
Periodicals Section

Scholarly journals, newsletters, magazines and newspapers both current and back issues, vertical file materials are found in this section.
Nursing/Midwifery Section

This section caters to the needs of Nursing and Midwifery students, reviewers of nursing and midwifery students. It provides collections used for medical research.
Commerce and Accountancy Section

This section caters to the needs of Commerce and Accountancy students, CPA reviewers and researchers of different colleges and universities.
Archives Section

This section will serve as a repository for the collection and the preservation of historically valuable documents relating to the history of the university.
Reserve Section

Reserve books are issued for one (1) hour at a time for ROOM USE ONLY. Extension for additional hours may be granted unless there is prior demand by another reader.
Old Books Section

This section houses selected books that have been removed from the shelves of the different section/branches of the library to give way to new acquisitions. These books have older editions and publications dates but have retained their usefulness due to their historical significance. The collection includes all subject fields.
Other Services Other by the Library

Current Awareness (Bulletin Board) – Dissemination of information, especially newly-arrived books, and other information related to the library.

Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) – This facilitates the finding out of the right materials for the right tpic using computer instead of traditional card catalog.

Library Orientation – Every first semester just after the opening of classes, library orientation was conducted by the Head Librarian to freshmen and transferees students in coordination with guidance and counselling office. The lecture gives a brief outline of the facilities, services and resource of the university library.

Library Extension Program – Provide assistance and services to the Barangay High Schools within Urdaneta City.
