UCU Faculty Strengthens Research Capability through UPLB Workshop

Urdaneta City University (UCU) strengthened its research capabilities and commitment to academic excellence through a two-day UPLB Research Workshop held on July 16–17, 2026, at the University Cafeteria. 

The workshop brought together faculty members from various colleges for a series of lectures, coaching sessions, and hands-on discussions on research methods, quantitative research writing, publication strategies, and the peer-review process. The sessions were facilitated by experts from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). 

The first day began with Engr. Ramon Christian Eusebio, PhD, Professor and Program Coordinator of the Office of Institutional Development in Higher Education at UPLB, who delivered a lecture on Introduction to Research Methods. He guided participants through the fundamentals of academic inquiry, emphasizing practical approaches to developing research from conceptualization to publication-ready studies. 

Asst. Prof. Ramoncito Cambel, Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of the Office of Institutional Development in Higher Education at UPLB, led the session on Writing Quantitative Research for Publication, where he discussed research design, levels of measurement, applied statistics, and key considerations in quantitative writing. This was followed by Dr. Christian Leubert C. Milambiling, Assistant Professor at the Institute for Governance and Rural Development of the College of Public Affairs and Development at UPLB, who introduced alternative data collection methods beyond thematic approaches, broadening participants' perspectives on research methodologies. 

On the second day, Dr. Milambiling delivered the lecture "Writing Mixed Methods Research for Publication," highlighting the integration of qualitative and quantitative approaches to produce comprehensive scholarly studies. Engr. Eusebio then led the session "Navigating the Publication and Peer Review Process," providing practical guidance on selecting journals, responding to reviewers' comments, and successfully publishing academic research. 

Faculty members also joined coaching workshops, where they received feedback from UPLB experts to further improve their research manuscripts before concluding the two-day workshop with the sharing of experiences and final coaching. Participants presented their research outputs and shared the key insights they gained throughout the activity.

He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to empowering faculty members through continuous professional development, research excellence, and academic collaboration.
