UCU equips students for Research Congress through PRIME

Image Carousel · 4 images · click to change, right-click for options   Urdaneta City University strengthened its student research culture through the Preparing Researchers for Innovation, Methodology, and Excellence (PRIME), a Student Research Congress Preparatory Seminar-Workshop held through a hybrid modality on September 16, 2026, at the UCU Conference Room and via Google Meet.  Organized by the Center for Training and Professional Development (CTPD) and the Center for Research and Development (CRD), PRIME was designed to prepare student researchers for the upcoming Student Research Congress while building their confidence and competence in presenting, communicating, and defending scholarly work. The initiative is anchored on RISE (Research, Innovation, Scientifc Publication, and Engagement), one of UCU's fagship programs under the RANGTAY (Responsive Advancement through Nurturing Growth, Training, and Professional Yield) training and development framework. Prof. Agibuay emphasized the value of composure and intellectual honesty when responding to panel questions, noting that pausing to think signals thoughtfulness rather than panic. She stressed that researchers do not need to be Lawless, but must communicate their ideas in a clear and structured manner. Dr. Delos Reyes highlighted professional presence as an integral part of research presentation, emphasizing that professionalism begins before taking the stage and that a polished appearance demonstrates attention to detail and respect for the occasion.  Dr. Pelaez introduced a three-part strategy: visual plan, persuasive pitch, and precise timing. She encouraged participants to plan the visual story, prepare a concise three-minute pitch, and rehearse the rhythm of their delivery. She also underscored the value of simplicity, storytelling, and one main message per slide, culminating in a clear conclusion on why the research matters. The sessions further developed competencies in data visualization, 10-minute research pitching, PechaKucha and lightning talks, panel question-and-answer, and professional grooming and presence. By equipping students with the skills to develop and communicate research effectively, PRIME contributes to cultivating a stronger research culture at UCU-one that encourages inquiry, innovation, responsible scholarship, and meaningful academic engagement. The initiative advances UCU's commitment to SDGs 4, 9, 10, 16, and 17.
