Urdaneta City University, as part of its celebration during its 3-day 71st commencement exercises, bestowed recognitions upon chosen students of the graduating class of batch 2023 during the “Aldaw ti Panagyaman ken Pammadayaw” on August 14, 2023 at the Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Complex.
“You are not only given incentives and awards, but those are for you. Nobody can take away those awards from you. Nobody can take away the achievements that you have made in this University. Iyon ang pamana, iyon ang legacy sa inyo ng Urdaneta City University,” said Dr. Amihan April C. Mella-Alcazar, the Acting University President, in her inspirational speech.
Specified graduates were recognized through awards such as Special Achievement Awards, Journalism Award, Athletic Awards, Cultural Awards, Service Awards, Leadership Awards, Academic Distinction Awards, Research Awards, Orata Award for Leadership Excellence, and Academic Excellence Awards. The different college associations of the University were also recognized in the momentous rites.
However, despite the recognition granted upon the graduates, Dr. Nhorly U. Domenden, Director of the Center for Student Leadership and Development, said the true recipients behind the successes are the parents who guided and sacrificed for their children all throughout their college journey.
“I would like to congratulate everyone, especially the parents: dear parents, these are the fruits of your sacrifices,” Domenden remarked in his welcome message.
Dr. Hedy Jose B. Lardizabal, the Director of the Civil Service Commission – Regional Office 1 and guest of honor and speaker, addressed the awardees by quoting the great philosopher Confucius, “Roads were made for journeys, not destinations.”
“It’s another journey we will take, we have to make a choice. Choices, chances, changes. You must make a choice to take a chance or you will never change. Where are you going? Do you know? But for the meantime, let us celebrate,” Lardizabal added.
