UCU hosts CHED vax drive

“Ako ay estudyante ng Rehiyon Uno, bakunado at papasok ako!”

This statement from Dr. Rogelio T. Galera, Director IV of Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 1, serves as a slogan for the region's massive advocacy campaign for COVID-19 vaccination among tertiary students. 

Urdaneta City University (UCU), in partnership with the Local Government of Urdaneta and City Health Office (CHO), hosted the Ceremonial Vaccination Program on November 26, 2021, at Magic Mall Urdaneta -Annex.

The vaccination drive was participated by the academic institutions in Urdaneta City, such as Pangasinan State University (PSU), Lyceum Northern Luzon (LNL), University of Pangasinan - PHINMA, and Panpacific University.

"With the arrival and administration of COVID-19 vaccine to our students, the hope of going back to school is much alive. Through this project, we aim to encourage students to get inoculated against COVID-19," said Galera, encouraging all students to get vaccinated.

Through a virtual presentation, CHED Chairman Popoy De Vera emphasized that students can only acquire some skills and competencies through in-person classes.

“Alam ng komisyon noong isang taon pa na kailangang unti-unting magbalik ang mga estudyante sa mga pamantasan dahil kailangan din nila ng mga skills at competencies  na maaring makuha lamang sa pamamagitan ng face-to-face classes,” De Vera pointed out.

“Gusto natin [na] unti-unting buksan ang ating mga pamantasan at makabalik ang mga estudyante para [sa] limited face-to-face classes. Ginagawa natin ang hakbang na ito upang siguruhing ligtas ang mga guro at estudyante sa pagbubukas ng klase,” the CHED commissioner’s call for the safe gradual re-opening of limited in-person classes.

Moreover, Urdaneta City Mayor Julio "Rammy" F. Parayno III and UCU Acting University Atty. Dar A. Diga commended the entire vaccination team from the CHO and all the coordinating institutions and government agencies for the aggressive vaccination roll-out in the city.
