UCUians receive TDP grants

The Commission on Higher Education Region 1, through Urdaneta City University Center for Student Leadership and Development (CSLD) and the Local Government of Urdaneta, commenced the awarding of scholarship grants under the Tulong Dunong Program (TDP) held at the Urdaneta City Mayor’s Office on May 31, 2022.

Eight (8) students represented the over 900 grantees from UCU and received cash assistance under the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education through TDP scholarships.

Acting University President Dr. Amihan April M. Alzacar, Chief Operating Officer Atty. Dar A. Diga,  and City Mayor Julio “Rammy” F. Parayno III led the ceremonial awarding of TDP grants to the 7 student representatives. Also present in the awarding ceremony were VP for Administrative Affairs Dr. Raquel D. Pascua and VP for Academic Affairs Dr. Josephine S. Lambinicio.

Meanwhile, UCU has continued the week-long distribution of TDP grants at the University Gymnasium on June 6 to 10, 2022.

The general distribution of scholarships officially started through a brief program headed by CSLD Director Dr. Nhorly U. Domenden and AUP Dr. Alcazar who gave their commendations and encouraged the grantees to take advantage of the TDP benefits to further their knowledge and skills and finish their degrees.

Maria Jasmin Estrada, BS Psychology-III, shared the benefits of CHED TDP in her education specifically in purchasing equipment needed for the online class.

“It’s a great opportunity and privilege for me as one of the CHED scholars in Urdaneta City University. In my three years being a scholar, nakabili na ako ng mga gadget for my online classes like printer. Nakatulong rin po siya for my family kasi hindi na po ako humihingi ng transportation expenses,” she said.

Third-year BS Civil Engineering student Silver Mae D. Serendiola said that the scholarship has been integral to her studies especially in facing a pandemic.

Napakalaking tulong po talaga ng Tulong Dunong Program ng CHED sa pag-aaral ko lalo na ngayong pandemic. Dahil dito sa TDP ay nakatulong po ako sa parents ko na mabawasan ang bayarin ko sa school.”

TDP is one of the many academic scholarship programs of the commission to support vulnerable and disadvantaged Filipino students who are eager to finish their education but do not have the financial capacity.
