Urdaneta City University, led by the Center for Training and Professional Development (CTPD), and in conjunction with the College of Teacher Education (CTE) and the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), conducted a seminar entitled, “Say No to Drugs” promoting the national government’s mandate on Anti-Illegal Drugs campaign held on February 16 and 26, 2024 respectively at the University Gymnasium.
Dr. Paul Wrenn, renowned as a multiple champion powerlifter and advocate against illegal drugs, and who is affiliated with the Living New Ministry in the United States, took center stage to share his journey toward a healthy and long life. He emphasized the importance of steering clear from illegal drugs and avoiding addiction to smoking, alcoholism, and other vices that are also prevalent issues in the Philippines.
“Do not stop exercising, good nutrition, avoid vices,” Dr. Wrenn answered, when he was asked about the secret to having a healthy lifestyle.
When he was eventually asked about the legalization of cannabis in some states in America, he straightforwardly said, “Doesn't mean it’s legal, it’s good for you,” and remained steadfast with his resolve that vices can ruin lives, physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Further enriching the discourse, representatives from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Region 1 - Urdaneta District Female Dormitory delved into critical topics, including drug awareness, the perils of smoking, including e-cigarettes, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
These collaborative efforts between national agencies and the University aim to heighten awareness regarding the dangers of illegal drugs and addiction, particularly among students. By fostering partnerships and delivering informative programs, the initiative seeks to safeguard the future of the community, safeguarding it from the detrimental effects of substance abuse and addiction.
