Urdaneta City University received formal recognition from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Pangasinan during the 38th Regular Session of the 12th Sangguniang Panlalawigan held on June 1, 2026, at the Session Hall of the Capitol Building in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
The recognition honored UCU’s consecutive distinction as the Most Innovative University in the Philippines in the 2026 World University Rankings for Innovation, a milestone that brought pride not only to Urdaneta City but to the entire Province of Pangasinan.
Provincial Resolution No. 632-2026, authored by SP Member Rosalina C. Apaga, congratulated and commended the University for its outstanding achievement and continuing pursuit of innovation, academic excellence, and quality education. The resolution was sponsored and introduced on May 18, 2026, by Apaga together with Board Member Nicholi Jan Louie Q. Sison.
During the session, Apaga underscored that UCU’s achievement reflects the University’s unwavering commitment to transformative education and institutional advancement.
“This remarkable achievement brings honor not only to Urdaneta City but also to the province of Pangasinan. It reflects the university's unwavering commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and quality education,” Apaga stated.
The UCU delegation, led by Acting University President Dr. Amihan April C. Mella-Alcazar, together with Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Josephine S. Lambinicio, and Director of External Affairs and Linkages Dr. Sonny Soriano, received the award.
The plaque, enacted on May 18, 2026, and awarded on June 1, 2026, was signed by 15 members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, attested by Vice Governor Lambino, and noted by Pangasinan Governor Ramon V. Guico III.
Vice Governor Mark Ronald DG. Lambino, Presiding Officer of the session, welcomed and congratulated UCU before suspending the rules for the awarding of the Plaque of Recognition and photo opportunity.
Aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, the commendation affirmed UCU’s growing role as a leading institution advancing innovation-driven learning, responsive governance, and future-ready education.#
