UCU BA Comm students participate in PACE-CMSC 2024

Faculty members and students of Urdaneta City University, under the Bachelor of Arts in Communication program of the College of Arts and Sciences attended the two-day Communication and Media Studies Conference (CMSC) 2024, pioneered by the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) held at St. Paul University, Quezon City on October 18-19, 2024. 

 

A plenary session from prominent figures in the communication industry formally opened the two-day conference. Dr. Margaret Hughes, Chair of the World Journalism Education Council, addressed the ethical responsibilities of journalists, while Mr. Ricky Gonzales, Managing Partner of Over the Moon Advertising Agency, highlighted the role of ethical communication in advertising, exploring its influence on consumer behavior.

 

UCU participants attended a roundtable discussion on “Science Communication and Pinoy Pop Culture,” led by experts in media and science. This session inspired UCU students to explore ways to make scientific information more relatable to the public.

 

UCU BA Communication students namely: Wynnona Villafania, Lawrence De Vera, Tristan Pescador, Crystal Mae Miguel, Justine Lyka Ordinario, Kimberly Remeterio, and Judilyn Sator presented their research, “Communication Marketing Approaches' Influence to Online Buyers, and Boss or Sis: Communication Selling Techniques of Male and Female Online Sellers,” receiving a certificate of recognition for their contributions to understanding communication strategies in e-commerce.

 

On the second day, students namely: Marjay Magno, Erika Tambo, Athena Ashley Perex, and Angelika Dela Cruz presented their paper, “Communication Strategy of Various Sectors in Human Immunodeficiency Virus Campaign Awareness.” Their work, focusing on HIV awareness campaigns, underscored the power of communication in addressing public health issues and received strong support from conference attendees.

 

The conference concluded with a closing speech from Mr. Angelo Palmones, the Chair of Science Communicator's Philippines Inc., emphasizing the importance of accurate and engaging science communication. Certificates of participation were awarded to all attendees, marking the successful end of the event
