UCU, CHR conducts human rights education for CCJE students

On April 25, 2024, at the University Gymnasium, Urdaneta City University and the Commission on Human Rights Region 1 (CHR R1) collaborated to host a seminar aimed at enhancing human rights education and empowering upcoming law enforcement personnel.

Attendees from the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) participated in the seminar, which provided a thorough discussion on social justice and human rights education. It emphasized the value of encouraging respect for diversity, actively participating in decision-making, and standing up for one's rights.
Atty. Michael Henry C. Sevilleja stressed the fundamental duty to protect human rights and underscored the critical importance of doing so.

“So, speaking of human rights, there is a corresponding obligation when you are exercising a right; there is an obligation for you to perform. When exercising your rights, be sure that you are not violating the rights of others," said Atty. Sevilleja.

Meanwhile, CHR R1 Information Officer Mr. Danilo Balino emphasized key characteristics of basic human rights and instilled a sense of responsibility to protect themselves and others' rights as human beings.

Additionally, Atty. Melanie C. William outlined the fundamentals under RA 7438, emphasizing the legal protections for individuals under investigation, arrest, or detention.

The program concluded with a reaffirmation of Urdaneta City University's commitment to excellence in education. Through strategic partnerships, the university aims to equip its students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in their future careers
