UCU further promotes mental well-being through training

In its continued efforts to promote mental wellness in the workplace, the Center for Training and Professional Development (CTPD) conducted a two-day seminar-workshop titled “Coping Mechanisms for Well-Being” on June 22-23, 2023, at the UCU Cafeteria.

The event opened with Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Josephine S. Lambinicio’s reminder on the importance of holistic well-being. “If we are unwell, we cannot serve,” she stressed.

The seminar featured a series of talks by guest speakers. Prof. Nikky S. Garo of Saint Louis University (SLU) highlighted self-reflection and meditation as key tools for personal growth, while Prof. Ylona Veronica A. Bayod, also from SLU, emphasized the healing power of forgiveness in mental health.

Prof. Rhea M. Agibuay of Urdaneta City University underscored the role of gentleness and positive communication in fostering a safe and respectful workplace. “Kindness is contagious,” she said, encouraging employees to practice simple acts of appreciation.

On the second day, Dr. Jason L. Vicente from the Philippine Military Academy discussed the link between physical activity and mental wellness, teaching breathing techniques and the benefits of short “nugget naps” during work hours. Dr. Christopher R. Bañez, Dean of UCU’s College of Health Sciences, capped off the seminar with practical health tips to improve productivity and overall well-being.

Participants also received the Employees’ Holistic Health Development Action Plan to help them sustain healthy practices beyond the training.
