Urdaneta City University participated in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on March 9, 2023.
The drill started with a loud siren, signaling the beginning of an earthquake. University personnel, faculty and students quickly dropped to the ground and took cover under tables, desks, or any sturdy furniture. To protect themselves from falling objects, everyone executed the "duck, cover, and hold" procedure as the simulated tremors continued. After the shaking stopped, everyone evacuated their buildings, proceeding to emergency exits and evacuation areas.
The drill was spearheaded by the UCU-DRRMO, to test its emergency procedures and evaluate its readiness to respond to a real earthquake, and educate everyone about earthquake safety.
Everyone who participated in the earthquake drill attained valuable experience. Unexpected earthquakes can occur, thus it is important to be prepared. Putting emergency drills into practice and knowing about earthquake preparedness can influence how people respond to and recover from an earthquake.
