Urdaneta City University strengthened its commitment to quality, student-centered education by promoting health and wellness through the “PUFF-FREE and PROUD: A Vaping Awareness Seminar” held at the UCU Tunnel on May 4, 2026.

Framed as part of its holistic learning agenda, the initiative equipped students with knowledge to make informed, health-conscious choices. Guest speaker Neil Tablada, a Registered Nurse by profession, highlighted the dangers of vaping and smoking, citing their impact on lung health and their link to preventable deaths, while urging students to reject harmful habits.

University leaders reinforced the campaign. Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Josephine S. Lambinicio emphasized lung health through the “LUNGS” framework—living with purpose, understanding health, nurturing the body, growing with intention, and serving as wellness advocates.

Vice President for Administrative Affairs Atty. Michael Henry C. Sevilleja likewise called on students to avoid harmful substances and prioritize long-term well-being.

Interactive activities, including a slogan-making contest and symbolic campaigns such as the “Break the Vape Commitment Wall” and “Drop the Vape,” encouraged student participation and collective action.

An open forum further deepened discussions on shared responsibility in addressing vaping issues.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), the initiative reinforces UCU’s role in fostering a health-conscious academic community and delivering education that responds to real-world challenges.#
