UCU empowers campus journalists, Scribes undergo two-day training-workshop

In a proactive move to fine-tune skills and elevate competencies, the Editorial Board and Staff of the University Scribe underwent a comprehensive training workshop entitled, "Ethical Reporting in the Digital Age: Empowering Campus Journalists through Gender Sensitivity and Media Ethics” on January 30-31, 2024 held at the University Chapel.

Organized in collaboration with the Center for Leadership and Development and the Gender and Development office, the workshop aimed to imbue journalistic practices with a strong ethical foundation, particularly in the dynamic landscape of the digital age.

Experts of the field namely: Prof. Rhea M. Agibuay, Mr. Jefferson M. Delmendo, Mr. David O. Mingaracal, and Mr. Harley F. Barrozo have crafted workshop modules to instill a deep understanding of ethical reporting, emphasizing the significance of gender sensitivity and media ethics in journalism. These essential components are considered crucial for producing responsible and inclusive journalistic content.

The endeavor also held strategic importance as a preparatory ground for significant events, notably the Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC) and the production of student publications. The skills honed during the workshop will not only contribute to the success of the University Scribe in various university-related activities but will also foster a culture of responsible journalism among the participating students.
