The UCU Gender and Development (GAD) office, under the leadership of Prof. Flory C. Beltran orchestrated a Consultation Meeting with GAD coordinators from various colleges and departments on January 19, 2024 at the UCU Cafeteria, marking a pivotal step towards gender-sensitive and gender-responsive initiatives within the institution.
The meeting aimed to align the University's functions, spanning instruction, research, extension services and community development, and external and international linkages, with the principles of gender sensitivity and responsiveness.
Beltran emphasized the importance of weaving these perspectives into the fabric of the University's overarching goals.
The agenda encompassed the following key components: (1) A foundational session aimed at ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the principles and objectives of Gender and Development; (2) Clarifying roles and responsibilities to streamline efforts in integrating gender-sensitive practices within each college and office; (3) A strategic discussion focused on devising programs and activities that embed gender sensitivity and responsiveness, aligning with the University's diverse functions; and (4) Delving into the specifics of the upcoming year's work plan and budget allocations.
The meeting emerged as a collaborative platform, fostering engagement and synergy among GAD Coordinators. The collective efforts of these coordinators are poised to significantly impact the University's landscape, infusing gender sensitivity into the core of its academic, research, and community-focused activities.
