In a significant move towards prioritizing workplace safety, Urdaneta City University has recently introduced Basic Occupational and Safety Health (BOSH) training for its non-academic staff on June 5-9, 2023, at the University Cafeteria.
The university through the Disaster Risk-Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) collaborated with expert trainers and safety professionals from HSE Techskills Inc. to develop a comprehensive BOSH training program specifically tailored to the needs of non-academic staff members.
The training commenced with topics discussed by Mandrake S. Meneses, the HSC training director. Meneses provided an overview of the importance of OSH in the workplace and emphasized the significance of proactive measures to ensure the well-being of employees. Meneses also delved into the intricacies of OSH legislations, enlightening the participants on the legal framework governing occupational health and safety.
Meanwhile, Leopoldo R. Rausa Jr., an OSH trainer renowned for his expertise in hazard identification and risk assessment discussed the critical aspects of workplace safety, including “Hazard Identification" and "Work Environment Measurement." He highlighted the importance of recognizing potential hazards and measuring the overall safety of the work environment through interactive sessions. Additionally, Rausa stressed the significance of medical surveillance and risk assessment in preventing accidents and promoting employee well-being.
Moreover, Alexander P. Ildefonso, An OSH renowned trainer with extensive experience in workplace safety inspection and emergency preparedness, focused his discussions on practical strategies to ensure a safe working environment. Each participant was provided with knowledge on how to identify and rectify potential hazards through regular inspections, integrate activity instructions with OSH guidelines and effectively communicate safety protocols.
